Assistant Curator – Aquarium – Assistant Manager

Opportunity exists within a dynamic organisation for an Assistant manager in the Aquarium.  This position requires specific experience within an Aquarium (ESSENTIAL). This person will be required to manage all aspects of staffing and tasks related to Operations, Projects and Maintenance within the Curatorial Department –  Aquarium.  The person must have been exposed to a similar role having dealt with captive animal husbandry, health management and animal welfare – Aquarium life. (Aquaculture) only. Staff management experience at an aquatic animimal-keeping / aquaculture organisation IS ESSENTIAL.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Curator:  Aquarium with the management and administration of the Curatorial department’s operations and staff.
  • To oversee and assist the Lead and Senior aquarists with identifying and resolving staff, animal husbandry, disease and operational problems.
  • To ensure that high quality, well maintained exhibits that provide the appropriate habitats and environmental requirements for all the animals in the aquarium.
  • To implement the organisations Animal Management Plan and ensure health and welfare of all the animals in the aquarium and Dangerous Creatures.
  • To support the Curator: Aquarium and assume the responsibilities of the Curator in their absence.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Matric.
  • Degree in the Biological Sciences / similar advantageous.
  • Competent swimmer able to pass a swim test.
  • A commercial diving qualification (min class 4) advantageous
  • Computer skills in Microsoft products.
  • Staff management experience at an aquatic animal-keeping / aquaculture organisation essential
  • Sound knowledge of captive animal husbandry, health management and animal welfare – Aquatic
  • Sound understanding of life support systems and water treatment, water quality and its management, pumping and reticulation.
  • A motivated individual with good communication skills and a high level of EQ.
  • Able to work well in a team environment.
  • Support and endorse the conservation objectives of the organisation

Key Account Manager

The key account manager is responsible for handling the most important client accounts in the company. These accounts make up the highest percentage of company income, and the key account manager must build and maintain a strong relationship with the client. They will be the lead point of contact for all key client matters, anticipate the client’s needs, work within the company to ensure deadlines for client are met, and help the client succeed. The key account manager will also bring in new business from existing clients or contacts, and will develop new relationships with potential clients.  Use your client services skills as well as administrative and organisational skills in order to perform the role to the best of your ability.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • Developing a solid and trusting relationship between major key clients and company
  • Resolving key client issues and complaints
  • Developing a complete understanding of key account needs
  • Anticipating key account changes and improvements
  • Managing communications between key clients and internal teams
  • Managing account team assigned to each client
  • Strategic planning to improve client results
  • Negotiating contracts with client and establishing timeline of performance
  • Establishing and overseeing internal budgets with the company and external budgets with the client
  • Working with design, sales team, creative, advertising, logistics, managers, marketing, merchandising, warehousing, and team members from other departments dedicated to the meeting clients’ needs to ensure the highest quality of materials are being produced and all client needs met
  • Collaborating with sales team to maximize profit by up-selling or cross-selling
  • Planning and presenting reports on account progress, goals, and quarterly initiatives to share with team members, stakeholders, and possible use in future case studies or company training
  • Meeting all client needs and deliverables according to proposed timelines
  • Analysing client data to provide customer relationship management
  • Expanding relationships and bringing in new clients
  • Maintaining all client documentation and cohesive, up-to-date files, so as to have accurate, relevant, and readily available client focused data at all times

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, sales, or relevant field preferred
  • Four to five years’ previous work experience in sales management, key account management
  • Must have wholesale retail distribution Key Account Management experience with a major retail group
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • Encouraging to team and staff; able to mentor and lead
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • In-depth understanding of company key clients and their position in the industry
  • Eager to expand company with new sales, clients, and territories
  • Able to analyse data and sales statistics and translate results into better solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; must be a listener, a presenter, and a people-person
  • Intermediate computer skills, and experience with Customer-relationship management (CRM) software and the Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on superior Excel skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with ability follow-through on client contracts

  • Own transport, with valid driver’s license. Frequent store and client visits are expected.
